A North Carolina man has been charged with murder following an investigation by Morristown Police Department officials into a death that occurred at an Econo Lodge Monday.

Jacob Thomas Marzullo, 38, of Maggie Valley, North Carolina has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Thomas Frederick Taylor Jr. 42.

Investigators say Marzullo traveled to Morristown from North Carolina to confront Taylor about stealing his property and Taylor’s death was a result of a physical confrontation between the men.

According to MPD, police were called for a disturbance and medical call to the Econo Lodge in West Morristown at 6 p.m. The victim, a 42-year-old man, was dead at the scene.

“Upon investigation, it was discovered that two male acquaintances staying at the hotel had a physical altercation over an alleged theft by the victim,” police stated in a press release.

Marzullo is currently being held at the Hamblen County Jail without bond.
