The city of Oak Ridge will begin the process of relocating its historical landmark known as “The Friendship Bell” this morning.
The bell was a gift from Japan in the early 1990’s as a symbol of peace after World War II.
Volunteers in Oak Ridge worked to restore the bell by raising 750,000 to preserve the landmark.
Starting Thursday morning, crews will move the bell to its new home in A.K. Bissell Park at the Peace Pavilion.
We’re told the bell will be hung on a new structure at a later date.
