Pedestrian in wheelchair struck by vehicle, KPD says

Knoxville Police Department is investigating an incident involving a vehicle that struck a pedestrian in a motorized wheelchair Monday night. 

According to KPD, officers initially responded to a report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian in a motorized wheelchair; arriving on the scene and finding a man that had been struck by a vehicle. The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the 5000 block of North Broadway. 

The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle reportedly traveling south on North Broadway. The pedestrian in the motorized wheelchair, had attempted to cross the street at a non-intersection outside of the crosswalk and upon entering a lane of travel, was struck, KPD said.

The pedestrian suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.  

No word yet on the driver of the vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
