A former Pigeon Forge Middle School teacher is accused of trying to show photos depicting sexual activity to a 13-year-old girl.

A Sevier County grand jury indictment says Daniel Turner, 40, is charged with sexual exploitation of a minor by electronic means. The indictment lists three Pigeon Forge Middle employees as witnesses.

Turner was a teacher at the school and a database from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association also lists him as a boy’s basketball coach.

A letter from Superintendent Jack Parton to the Tennessee Board of Education reports that Turner had resigned in October, two weeks after the alleged incident. The report gives a reason of “inappropriate communication with a student that is non-explicit.”

Turner was arrested on December 11 and released the same day on $2,500 bond.

Parton was not available for comment due to the holidays.
