A woman walking in a downtown Knoxville crosswalk was taken to the hospital Monday after she was hit by a driver police say was distracted.
The Knoxville Police Department says the woman was walking in a marked crosswalk on Summit Hill at the intersection with Gay Street and had a “walk” signal when she was hit by a 2015 Jeep Cherokee.
The driver told police he was looking at his GPS and did not see the woman. He was cited with careless driving and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
The woman was taken to UT Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
