The judge postponed a preliminary hearing Thursday and revoked bond for the driver accused in a deadly crash last month on Chapman Highway in Knoxville.

Franco Cambrany Francisco-Eduardo, 44, faces charges of criminally negligent homicide, as well as not having a driver’s license or proof of insurance in the head-on crash that killed Pierce Corcoran, 22, son of Knoxville Fire Department Capt. DJ Corcoran.

Francisco-Eduardo has been in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement for the last several days. He made his first court appearance on Thursday.

The judge delayed his preliminary hearing for a week after his attorney argued he had not had time to prepare for the hearing because Francisco-Eduardo had only been returned from the ICE facility the night before.

The state argued they were ready for a hearing and a witness was ready to testify. They also pointed out there would be no guarantee that Francisco-Eduardo would be transported by ICE back to Knox County for another hearing.

The judge revoked Francisco-Eduardo’s bond in an effort to make sure he would be in Knox County on January 17, the new date for his preliminary hearing. He previously had a $2,500 bond. Because it has been revoked, Francisco-Eduardo will remain in custody in Knox County until the hearing.
