Prosecutor: ‘Professional criminal’ facing 30 years in prison

Local News

A man prosecutors call a “professional criminal” is now facing 30 years in prison.

A Knox County judge today sentencing Lawrence Schumaker for aggravated burglary convictions in 8 cases.

During his trial last fall, prosecutors told jurors how Schumaker broke into a West Hills home, stealing $5,000 worth of jewelry.

After that conviction, Schumaker pleaded guilty to 7 more break-ins around Knox County.

We’ve also told you about his arrest in Loudon County back in October 2015, when police shared a photo of Schumaker being taken into custody in the driveway of a home. Officers found Schumaker running out of a back door, saying he fired a round from a gun stolen from the home.

The DA’s Office says Schumaker has convictions from several counties in his criminal history.
