Rural Metro Fire responded to a reported house fire at 4:52 p.m. this afternoon in West Knoxville.
Fire officials say initial crews arrived in five minutes to find active fire coming from the chimney extending into the attic.
An aggressive exterior attack by firefighters, then moving to the inside minimized damages to the interior of the house, according to fire officials.
The property owners were at home and had safely self-evacuated prior to the firefighters’ arrival.
No reports of injuries and the exact cause will be under investigation.
“As this is the second fire within three days that could possibly have started from a chimney or fire box, this should be a good reminder to have your chimneys professionally cleaned annually before you burn a fire in them,” fire officials caution.
