The Blount County Sheriff’s Office has called off a search for a possible second missing swimmer at Peery’s Mill Dam in Walland.
Deputies recovered a drowning victim, Ty Christopher Berry, 33, of Maryville on Wednesday evening. He was pronounced dead at Blount Memorial Hospital.
The sheriff’s office was called to Peery’s Mill around 7:15 p.m Wednesday. When they arrived, the Blount County Fire Department was already on the scene and giving Berry CPR. He was then taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died.
A witness told deputies he saw two men go into the water. A dive team and others had been searching but a second victim was never found.
Authorities called off the search Thursday after no concrete evidence or tips from another witness that another person was in the water.

A kayaker also floated down both sides of the river for several miles and didn’t find any sign of a second swimmer. The spokesperson also said they have no reports of missing persons.
