Suspect in custody after deadly Knoxville apartment complex shooting

Police say a suspect is in custody after a shooting at a Knoxville apartment complex Friday afternoon that later turned deadly.

Antonio Gipson, 36, has been charged with one count of first degree murder and is being held on $750,000 bond.

Police were called to Caprice Apartments on Valley View Drive around 12:42 p.m. where they found Alexander Lemar West, 25, with a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to UT Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Police believe the shooting was domestic related.

After identifying Gipson as the suspect, officers contacted him and were able to talk him into turning himself over to authorities.

Knoxville police are investigating a shooting at a Knoxville apartment complex between two people who are believed to know each other. 

When officers arrived at Caprice Apartments on Valley View Drive around 12:42 p.m. they found a man outside apartment number four with at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to UT Medical Center for what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation shows the shooting happened after a confrontation between the suspect and victim and they are believed to know each other. The victim lived at this apartment complex while the shooter did not.

The suspect is a black male in his 20s with medium complexion, driving a white or cream colored Chrysler 300 and wearing a fisherman’s style hat.
