TBI identifies victim in fatal Unicoi County shooting

The victim in Saturday night’s fatal shooting in Unicoi County has been identified. 

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. on Saturday. Officers responded to a business along Simerly Creek Road.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation tells identified Larry Junior Morton, 63, as the victim of the fatal shooting in the 6300 block of Simerly Creek Road in the Town of Unicoi. 

TBI issued the following statement: 

In a joint investigation, the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in the 63-hundred block of Simerly Creek Road in Unicoi, Saturday.  An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.  The deceased individual has been identified as Larry Junior Morton (DOB: 08/13/70).

Unicoi County Sheriff Mike Hensley said Saturday that one person died and another was questioned after a shooting in the county
