The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday identified the armed woman who was shot and killed in an officer-involved shooting in LaFollette Monday morning.

The deceased  has been identified as Lianna Renee London, 28, of Jacksboro, Tenn.

TBI agents are still investigating the incident.

Police in LaFollette shot and killed a woman Monday morning after they received a call that she was breaking into a home.

According to the TBI, the LaFollette Police Department received a report just before 7 a.m. that a woman was trying to break into a home on East Prospect Street.

When officers got to East Prospect Street, they ran into the woman who they said was armed with what was believed to be a handgun.

LaFollete police say the woman pulled the gun from her waistband and though officers told her several times to drop the gun, she pointed it at the officers. They say they were forced to fire, hitting the woman.

Officers secured the scene and started giving the woman medical treatment. She was taken to Tennova Hospital in LaFollette where she was pronounced dead.

“It’s terrible. It’s a terrible situation all the way around. Our hearts go out to the family of the person who was shot. Certainly it goes out to the officers who will have to deal with this the rest of their lives,” said LaFollette Police Chief Bill Roehl.

The woman’s identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.

No officers were hurt. We’re told the officers involved are on administrative leave until further notice.

“It’s a terrible burden to carry. Our officers are strong. Their training kicked in and they did what they had to do,” added Chief Roehl.

Around noon on Monday, Shelly Robbins came by the scene, worried it may have been a loved one who was killed, “You hear it everywhere but for it to be here in your community, it’s like oh wow, it’s scary. Heartbreaking.”

TBI agents and forensic scientists are still conducting interviews and gathering evidence.
