TBI: Suspect identified in hours-long standoff with Blount County deputies

One person is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after an hours long standoff at a Blount County apartment complex on Saturday. 

The TBI is assisting the Blount County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.

The TBI identifying the suspect as 21-year-old Robert L. Fann III. 

The Sheriff says they received a call Saturday morning of a domestic disturbance and sent a couple of deputies to Manor Way Apartments.

Upon arrival, deputies realized that the suspect had a bond restriction on him for an order of protection. Deputies were able to place the suspect in the back of a cruiser. After suspecting he was trying to hide drugs, deputies moved the suspect out of the car. That is when the suspect took off on foot and ran back into the apartment he had come out from. Deputies then heard a shot fired.  

A Swat team and negotiators were called out to the scene to try to resolve the situation peacefully.  

The suspect came to the door with a gun to his head. He then lowered the weapon and several shots were fired between deputies and the suspect. 

The suspect then went back into the bedroom and another shot was heard from inside the apartment. 

According to the Sheriff, the suspect is a white male who is 21-years-old. 

Blount County Deputies say the standoff ended at around 4:00 p.m.
