“We are excited and privileged to bring this quality entertainment, almost entirely locally produced, home to Knoxville. It is our goal to continue to create a favorable environment through incentives and legislation that benefit the film community, attract future projects to the state, and impact local education and the citizens of Tennessee,” said Gordon Whitener, Whitener Entertainment Group Chairman and the film’s producer.

“The Visit Knoxville Film Office was established for projects such as this. The Last Movie Star provided an immediate and substantial economic impact to our community by providing good paying jobs to our talented local production crew, caterers, actors, and others. It also provided revenue for hotels, equipment rental houses, restaurants, and many locations around Knoxville that were used in the film. We expect the reach and success of this film will encourage people around the world to view Knoxville as the hidden gem that it is, driving tourism and providing our city priceless exposure,” said Kim Bumpas, president of Visit Knoxville.

The film is loosely based on Reynolds’ own life. He plays a college football star-turned Hollywood icon. Now in his eighties, he travels Nashville to receive a film festival award after being convinced to do so by an old friend, played by Chevy Chase.

“The Last Movie Star” will come to the Tennessee Theatre on Thursday, March 29 at 7:30, one week after its debut in Hollywood. The movie will hit movie theaters nationwide on Friday, March 30.
