One of the world’s best swimmers was in Knoxville Wednesday as the city gets ready to host a competition featuring some of the world’s top swimming talent in January.
Three-time Olympic gold medalist Ryan Murphy dove into the pool at UT Wednesday, showing just what it means to be an elite swimmer.
Wednesday’s gathering at the UT pool was part of the getting the word out about the TYR Pro Swim Series coming to Knoxville in January.
The four-day event is expected to draw 400 to 600 of the best swimmers in the world and those swimmers are hoping to make an impact others while they are here.
“You never know who’s sitting in the stands and what they’re gonna become. So whatever we can do to help touch them in their progression is huge,” said Murphy.
“Where else can you go and just meet Olympians and be a part of that celebration of the Olympics?” said Visit Knoxville president Kim Bumpas.
The TYR Pro Swim Series is set for Jan. 9-12 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the UT Campus.
