TVA: Lakes, rivers already at summer levels due to rainy spring

Local News

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – After a rainy spring, the Tennessee Valley Authority says East Tennessee lakes and rivers are already at their summer water levels.

Given the recent rains, that shouldn’t be a huge surprise, says TVA, from the weekend soaking earlier this month to the flooding at the end of February.

“February and the winter and the spring kept us busy with all that extra rainfall, but the good news is it has meant we’ve been able to fill the lakes up, and we’re ready for recreation season to start here with Memorial Day a couple of weeks away,” said TVA River Forecast Center Manager James Everett.

TVA is encouraging everyone to use caution with higher than normal lake levels. There could be floating debris on the water you need to watch out for.
