UT responds after hateful messages found painted on “The Rock”

Local News

The University of Tennessee has released a statement following hateful messages that were found painted on “the Rock” on the school’s campus.

Swastikas, along with the words “rape” and “Manson” were found painted on the free speech venue Saturday night.

Sunday, the school released a statement, condemning the symbols and messages of hate:

“This is the second time in as many weeks that the Rock has been used to communicate hate. These messages, which are hurtful and threatening to many members of our community, do not represent our Volunteer values.”

This is not the first time hateful messages have been painted on the Rock. Back in December of 2017 the words “white pride” were found painted on the Rock.
