KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – Saturday the Vols broke their 11 year losing streak to the Florida Gators with a winning score of 38-28. As expected, pandemonium broke out in downtown Knoxville, but did some Vol fans take the celebration too far?
Fans leaving the stadium saw plumes of black smoke rising in the distance from a couch fire burning in front of a house in Fort Sanders.
Some social media users say the fans went too far.
Those fans weren’t the only ones to start a fire. There were several incidents of couches on fire and mattress burnings.
The whole incident is reminiscent of the 2010 student lead mattress burning riot following Lane Kiffin’s resignation as the Volunteer’s head coach. He now holds a position as Alabama’s offensive coordinator.
How did you celebrate the Vol’s win? Do you think the mattress burning was too much?
