A wanted former Sweetwater police officer was captured last week after a decade on the run on theft charges.
Christopher Greene, 55, was located in Panama and taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation first began looking into Greene in September 2007 when they launched an investigation into the theft of money from the evidence room at the Sweetwater Police Department. Agents developed information that Greene, who was an officer at the time, was responsible.
The following April, a grand jury indicted Greene on one count of theft over $10,000. While trying to locate him, agents developed information he had left the country and was possibly in Central America.
Greene was transported back to Monroe County and is being held on $100,000 bond.
