The family dog that mauled and killed an 8-day-old baby has been put down, according to the Lee County, Va. sherrif.
Sheriff Gary Parsons said the dog, a three-year-old wolf-hybrid, was euthanized.
The attack happened Wednesday at the family’s home in the Seminary community of Lee County. The baby girl died at UT Medical Center around 4:00 p.m.
Sheriff Parsons said the call came in around 11:40 a.m. that a family pet had attacked a baby. Within a matter of hours, the baby was first taken to Lonesome Pine Hospital, then Holston Valley Medical Center and then to UT Medical Center in Knoxville.
The baby girl had extensive injuries to the upper part of her body, according to the sheriff.
Parsons said his department is part of an ongoing investigation with the Lee County Department of Social Services. The family has two older children.
