Zoo Knoxville working on alcohol sales proposal

Local News

Zoo Knoxville is looking into selling alcohol as it works to open a new cafe.

The zoo is planning to open what it calls the ‘Beastro Café’ in March. Currently, it is only able to sell alcohol after hours by getting a special-event permit.

Zoo President Lisa New says she spoke to state representatives about a law that prevents them from selling alcohol. The aim would be to increase sales and boost partnership opportunities with businesses like local craft breweries.

Knoxville City Council passed a resolution Tuesday voicing support for bills in the state legislature to change that state law.

This is a developing story and we’ll continue to update you on what happens with this proposal.
