KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A convicted felon and known drug dealer was convicted on a lesser charge Friday in a 2014 deadly shooting at a Knoxville nightclub.
Marquail Anthony Patterson, 36, was convicted after a five-day trial of second degree murder, five counts of attempted reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Patterson was accused of shooting Adarius Boatwright in the early morning hours of June 26, 2014, eight times on the crowded patio of Studio X, 1921 Cumberland Avenue. Some of the bullets struck bystanders who survived.
Patterson fled the scene but was arrested a short time later. He told officers he knew nothing about the shooting, which was captured on surveillance camera.
At trial, Patterson said he shot Boatwright in self-defense.
Sentencing is scheduled for September 11.
