SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. (WATE) — A man who went missing while traveling from Sevier County to a military base has been found safe.

Sevier County Sheriff’s Office said Elijah Oliver left his residence in Sevier County on Jan. 4 and was traveling back to Fort Campbell. Fort Campbell is an Army base located on the Tennessee-Kentucky border near Clarksville.

According to an incident report from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Oliver was found Saturday afternoon walking with a loaded handgun on Dutchtown Road at Christian Academy Way.

U.S. Army officials provided documentation to the sheriff’s office that Oliver had been declared absent without leave (AWOL). He was taken to the Roger D. Detention Facility and held for the U.S. Army, who dispatched officials to take custody of him.

Investigators said Oliver’s parents last spoke with him on Jan. 4 and had not been able to make contact since then.

Oliver drove a Mazda 6, according to Sevier County.
