An East Tennessee teen who captivated audiences around the nation on American Idol was voted off the show Sunday.
We’ve been following the story of the East Tennessee native Drake McCain on American Idol but now Drake’s time on the show is coming to an end.
“I’m still proud of you,” his mother can be heard saying after MCain learned he was voted off the show. “I made it this far you know. If I made it this far then just imagine“ McCain replied.
20 contestants had to be cut at the end of last night’s show.
McCain is a 17-year-old high school student that lives in Spring City in Rhea County, located between Knoxville and Chattanooga. He is the eldest son in a family of 11 children. He began performing at age 7 but credits his friend Abigail Corvin who encouraged him to focus on his passion during his junior year in high school.
