No Tennessee Powerball jackpot, but Knoxville player wins $200k

KNOXVILLE (WATE) — Nobody will be quitting their job after winning the Powerball in Tennessee, but a lucky few can pay off a few loans.

The Tennessee Lottery said there were 193,147 winning tickets in Tennessee. Five people, including one person in Knoxville, won tickets worth $200,000 and one person won $50,000.

The winning number were 6, 7, 16, 23 and 26, and the Powerball was 4.

The $785 million jackpot was won by Mavis Wanczyk in Massachusetts. The 53-year-old told reporters she bought two quick-pick tickets and a third ticket for which she picked out the number herslf, and the latter was the lucky one. Some of the numbers she chose were birthdays, one was her lucky numer 4 and others were random, she said.

She said she was with a colleague from work when she checked her numbers. The mother of a 31-year-old and 26-year-old said she was in shock.

“It’s just a pipe dream I’ve always had,” said Wanczyk. “It’s just a chance I had to take.”

The odds of matching all six numbers are only one in 292.2 million.
