New proposed guidelines from psychologists are showing adolescence last a longer period of time than formally believed.
The Lancet Child and Adolescent Health Journal says adolescence lasts through the age of 24. This means adulthood starts at age 25.
The new guideline will allow child psychologists to treat more patients. The previous age limit for treatment was 18.
Neuroscience shows the brain continues to develop between ages 18 and 25, including emotional maturity, judgment and self-awareness.
