Victim identified in fatal Union County crash

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) —An investigation is underway after one person was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Union County.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Maynardville Highway near Butcher Lane just before noon Monday. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Victoria Wilson, of Pineville, Kentucky.

According to a preliminary report, Wilson was a passenger in the vehicle when it left the roadway and struck a tree before catching fire. Both occupants were assisted by witnesses and removed from the vehicle before it was destroyed by fire.

The driver was injured in the crash. It is unknown at this time if either occupant was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the report.

Charges against the driver are pending the outcome of the investigation.
