EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WKRN) – One Indiana family remembers their son and grandson through connecting with his favorite football player.

Logan Brown was killed by a suspected drunk driver. He would have turned 16 this month.

NFL star and former University of Tennessee Vol Peyton Manning was his idol, and now he can reciprocate the years of support.

Gayle Ricketts, Logan’s grandmother said, “As a grandmother I felt like I should let Peyton know this young man idolized him and what he meant in his life.”

So she did.

An autographed picture and hand-written letter sent to the family from Manning said how honored he was that Logan was such a big fan.

“When he was little we took him to a football game. And that’s when he first really liked Peyton and then when Peyton moved to the Broncos, he kind of deserted the Colts,” said Ricketts.

The family planned to take him to a Broncos game, but that day never came. Logan’s dad says this gesture from Manning is more than just a birthday gift for Logan; it’s inspiration.

“To take the time to send something back to a situation in Evansville, Indiana, that he probably doesn’t know anything about… It’s important to see that they’re humans and for these other kids to see you never forget where you come from,” said Charles, Logan’s father.

Family members said this gift is one Logan would have cherished.

“I know Logan is up there looking down. He’s smiling. I think he will be happy,” said Ricketts.
