Sevierville church sells trees for wildfire victims

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – The community of Sevierville coming together following the tragic events of the past week in Gatlinburg.

New Hope Church, along the Parkway in Sevierville, doing what they can to help out families affected by the Gatlinburg fires, by selling trees and giving the proceeds to the victims.

“This community is here to help each other, especially in a situation like this,” said Steve Mercer with New Hope Church.

The hope is for the church to raise $25,000.00

“for us to be able to do this and help out for whatever little bit we can, it just makes everybody feel like Christmas,” Mercer said.

Families buying the trees already putting plans in place to make their Christmas tree meaningful this year.

“We’re going to get empty ornaments and decorate them for the schools, and everything that’s been affected. We basically want to give our tree to Gatlinburg this year. It’s all for Gatlinburg,” said September Owens.
