KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A portion of Church Avenue in downtown Knoxville will be closed while crews work to repair a sinkhole that opened up Tuesday afternoon after heavy rains.
City of Knoxville and KUB construction crews will be working to repair the collapsed section of Church Avenue just west of Gay Street. They will also install a new sewer storm pipe along the 700 block of Gay Street between Church and Cumberland avenues.
During the work, West Church Avenue will be closed between Gay and Market Street. The pipe installation will result in the partial closure of one southbound lane of Gay Street between Church and Cumberland avenues starting Wednesday night.
