Superintendent: two teachers tied to slavery homework assignment resign

WATE sister station WKRN has confirmed two resignations after a controversial homework assignment in Williamson County.

The assignment focused on slavery and was given to students at Sunset Middle School last month. It told students to imagine they owned slaves and to create a list of expectations for the slaves.

The Williamson County Superintendent, Dr. Mike Looney, called it a “gross error” by the teachers and “insensitive.”

On Wednesday, the Superintendent tells us two teachers tied to the assignment have resigned; he would not confirm why they resigned.
