NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – State Representative Jason Powell filed legislation on Thursday to discontinue Tennessee license plates that feature the Confederate flag.Related:Gov. Haslam would remove Confederate monument from Tenn. Capitol
The bill comes on the heels of a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court that ruled states can ban the Confederate flag from license plates.
In a release, Powell said, “Tennessee should stop issuing license plates hat feature a symbol of hate, oppression and injustice.”Related:East Tennesseans disagree over Confederate flag’s meaning
The earliest the bill would be heard is in January 2016.
