Tennessee

GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Deputies with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a body found in the Nolichucky River Sunday evening.

The Sheriff’s Department said they responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. after a boater said they found the body in the river.

That call came from the area around the boat ramp at Birds Bridge on Old Asheville Highway.

From there, the caller was able to take deputies to the body’s location.

They found it snagged by a tree in the river.

At that time, Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad responded with members and more boats to recover the body.

Police confirmed the body was a white male but said it had not yet been identified.

Officials said the body is now being sent to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center in Johnson City for autopsy.

Anyone with information that could help authorities identify the body is asked to call the Greene County Sheriff’s Department at 423-798-1800.
