Governor Bill Lee has declared May, Tennessee Grape and Wine Appreciation Month.
According to a 2017 Census of Agriculture, there are 67 wineries and over 500 acres of grapes grown in Tennessee. The grape and wine industry in Tennessee provides employment for more than 400 people.
According to the proclamation, the industry brings around $736 million into the economy each year.
This comes a little over a month after Gov. Lee signed a bill to ease some of the restrictions on wineries in our state.
Lee signed a bill in March that would allow small wineries to open two satellite facilities without a previous restriction that forced them to go through a licensed wholesaler to distribute wines.
