Tazewell Police Department arrested a man on Sunday for attempting to steal a ladder truck from the Tazewell/New Tazewell Fire Department, along with the fire department’s fuel card.
Johnathan Scott Rodriguez, was found behind the wheel of a ladder truck with the engine running as TPD were responding to a call about a suspicious male attempting to gain entry to the vehicles.
When he was approached by officers, he claimed to own the fire department along with the truck. Officers determined that Rodriguez was intoxicated and had a stolen fuel card from the fire department in his possession.
After confirming with T.N.T Fire Chief Josh Miracle, that Rodriguez was not a member of the department, he was arrested and charged with: attempted theft over $250k, aggravated burglary, and theft under $1,000.
He was then booked and lodged in the Claiborne County Jail.
