The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the public to take part in a prayer vigil for an officer that was shot in the line of duty on Saturday.

Sheriff Jess Cassidy confirmed Steve Hinkle was shot by a suspect yesterday on the scene of a welfare check in Blountville. The sheriff’s office said during a press conference that Hinkle is in serious condition at a local hospital.

A prayer vigil is being held in the sheriff’s office parking lot today at 1 p.m. and the public is encouraged to attend.
