State trooper under investigation after shooting in Middle Tennessee

ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating a shooting involving a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper along I-65 North in Robertson County.

The trooper pulled his gun and shot a driver who caused a crash, according to investigators.

The incident took place shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday near exit 112 at Highway 25.

TBI spokesperson Susan Niland says the Trooper was conducting a traffic stop when he saw a car speeding up the exit ramp from the interstate. The car hit a tractor trailer, knocking it off the road. The car careened down an embankment.  The driver got out of the car.

What happened next is not clear.

Niland could not say why the trooper fired his gun or whether the suspect had a weapon.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation did not release the name of the trooper, the wounded man or or any information about his condition.
