NASHVILLE (WATE) – Tennessee Highway Patrol arrested a Texas man after discovering 29 pounds of crystal meth during a traffic stop on I-40 East in Knox County. Troopers searched the vehicle after Juan Munoz, 48, of Dallas gave conflicting stories about where he was heading. A K9 gave a positive response to the drugs when searching around the vehicle.

A shrink-wrapped package of meth was found inside a seat during the search. The troopers moved the Chevy Suburban to a Tennessee Department of Transportation facility and found more packages within the seats. The additional 23 packages weighed 29 pounds. Troopers seized $378 and the vehicle.

Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons believes the incident is an example of the importance of stopping drug traffickers. “Because of its geographic location, Tennessee is a major drug trafficking corridor,” said Gibbons.

Munoz was charged with the possession with the intent to sell and deliver. He is now in Knox County Jail.
