KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — Gov. Andy Beshear briefed Kentuckians on Saturday after violent winds, severe thunderstorms, flooding, and a few small tornadoes swept across Kentucky on Friday.
Wind speeds in some locations eclipsed 70 mph.
Beshear also confirmed the death count has risen to five as another Kentuckian was confirmed dead because of the storms, after an 84-year-old man from Bath County was confirmed dead.

The first death reported by Gov. Andy Beshear around 5:30 p.m. was in Simpson County, at 6:07 p.m. he reported a second death in Edmonson County. Later he added a third person from Logan County to the list.
“Kentucky, please add one more family to your prayers tonight. We just learned of our third weather related death, this loss coming out of Logan County. Let’s continue to be there for one another as we mourn these losses. ^AB,” Beshear said on Twitter.
The third death was in Lexington and was confirmed by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office to be 41-year-old Erica Nichole Yeary, from Lexington. The coroner reported that a tree fell in high winds onto the car Yeary was driving. She was declared dead at 6:37 p.m.

Gov. Andy Beshear said someone died Friday while the storm passed through Simpson County.
“I am sad to report we have one weather related death today in Simpson County. Britainy and I ask the entire commonwealth to join us in holding the family of this Kentuckian in prayer as they mourn this loss. ^AB,” Beshear wrote on Twitter.
This is the first storm-related death to be reported.
