KPD: Both the vehicle and the girl have been found safe

Knoxville Police Department earlier responded to a false report that a vehicle was stolen from the Walmart on Chapman Highway while a 10-year-old girl was inside.

KPD officers were able to locate the car and the girl at a nearby store.  

Around 11:26 a.m. KPD responded to a call at the Walmart on Chapman Highway where a woman’s car was stolen along with her daughter inside.

KPD interviewed a witness who gave inaccurate information that a male entered and stole the vehicle with the child screaming in it. 

Throughout the investigation the car was found at another nearby store by officers. The woman forgot that she had previously moved it. The child was unharmed. 

KPD stating, ” Thank you to our media partners and all of our social media followers for helping us spread the information very quickly. We are extremely relieved that this was just a miscommunication and not an actual kidnapping.”
