KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — More winter weather is expected Thursday for East Tennessee as the next system arrives bringing a rain and snow mix.
WATE 6 Storm Team is tracking the system Tuesday and Wednesday, while questions remain as to how fast Thursday’s rain will change to snow across the area. Our meteorologists said Wednesday to be ready for the weather to deteriorate quickly Thursday and to expect a morning mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain — that will later switch to all snow in the afternoon. Ice accumulations will be limited, but snowfall projections are in the 2-4″ range are possible.
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service for most of East Tennessee. This goes into effect at noon Thursday and extends through early Friday morning. A Winter Storm Warning has been issued from noon Thursday until 7 a.m. Friday for the northern East Tennessee Valley and the Smokies. Those under the Winter Storm Warning are more likely to see light-to-moderate snowfall.

Meanwhile, Tennessee Department of Transportation crews are preparing to hit the roads ahead of the next wave of wintry mix. TDOT vehicles will be out Wednesday pretreating interstates and state routes.
