COSBY, Tenn. (WATE) — A search for a person who was reported missing from another state has ended after search teams recovered a body near Low Gap Trail in the Smokies.

UPDATE: Park officials say the missing person’s body has been found.

The person’s identity has not been released. A park spokesperson said only that the vehicle which prompted the search is registered in a different state, and that the person associated with the vehicle had been reported missing there.

The search began after a vehicle was found at a campground in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park this week, according to officials. It had been parked there for about a week.

“After performing a hasty search yesterday, the NPS (National Park Service) assembled a larger team to search the area today (Friday),” Davis stated.

The search continued Saturday and Sunday with the help of over 100 personnel from multiple agencies and organizations.

The Cosby Campground is located within the park near Cosby, Tenn. at an elevation of 2,460 feet. According to the GSMNP information page, Cosby Campground offers campsites for tents as well as RVs.
