SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — UPDATE 10 p.m. Dec. 23, 2020 — Police say two men have been charged following an altercation that led to guns being drawn at the Walmart in Sevierville on Wednesday.

In a press release sent late Wednesday night, investigators say they have charged two people in connection with the altercation: 65-year old Pedro Salisipan Ngayan, Jr. of Pigeon Forge, charged with two counts of aggravated assault, and 22-year old Dashawn Leon Bonner of Pensacola, Fla. was charged with one count of misdemeanor assault.

According to Detective Lieutenant Ray Brown, Bonner allegedly pushed Ngayan down during an argument, whereupon Ngayan displayed and pointed a handgun at Bonner. Bonner retreated to another location in the store, followed by Ngayan. Bonner then displayed and pointed his own handgun at Ngayan. No shots were fired during the altercation.

Police said Ngayan was transported to the Sevier County Jail for booking. Bonner was cited and released.

“In the earlier media release, it was noted that three persons were in custody, however it has been determined that the third person was not involved in the altercation. Therefore, he was not charged,” Sevierville Police said.

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Few confirmed details are known following an incident at the Walmart in Sevierville Wednesday afternoon after multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a report of a man with a gun that resulted in the detainment of three suspects.

No injuries were reported from the incident and police said there was no danger to the public.

On Wednesday night, Walmart released the following statement:

“We’re glad no customers or associates were seriously injured. We appreciate the response of the Sevierville Police Department and the speed with which the suspects were apprehended.”

Sevierville Police say they can’t confirm at this time if any shots were fired inside the Walmart in Sevierville, but that 3 people are detained for questioning.

Officers have conducted a search of the building in the 1400 block of Parkway and say there are no injuries.

A nearby Chick-Fil-A harbored about two dozen people with the lights off and doors locked as police investigated, according to manager David Simms.

“We have some of the shoppers who came over from Walmart, and they heard ‘gun’ and they ran immediately here. We’re trying to keep everybody away from the windows and doors as much as we can,” Simms said. “We’re letting everyone call their loved ones and getting them a drink of water or something to eat and making sure everyone feels comfortable.”

Tracey Houston, a witness, says she was in the parking lot of a Walmart in Sevierville when she heard gunshots.

“My friend since we were 10 years old was still in there, luckily a guy pushed her out a side door. But she’s extremely shaken up right now,” Houston said. “There’s every cop in Sevierville there right now working this.”

Multiple law enforcement agencies and first responders descended on the scene within minutes of reports about a possible active shooter, closing the busy Parkway for a couple hours.
