The announcement of Tyler Summitt’s hire as an assistant girls high school basketball coach in Ohio was a “miscommunication.”

Brooklyn Summitt was announced last week as the girls basketball coach of her high school alma mater in Fairborn, Ohio. The school board has approved her hire but has not considered hiring her husband, Tyler Summitt.

Fairborn athletic director Kevin Alexander told an Ohio newspaper the announcement of Tyler Summitt as an assistant to his wife was a “miscommunication.”

Tyler Summitt is the son of legendary Tennessee womens basketball coach Pat Summitt.

In a release last week that was taken down after it got a national spotlight, Brooklyn Summitt was quoted as saying “It will be great coaching alongside my husband, Tyler Summitt, who will be our varsity assistant coach.”

The news was controversial because Tyler Summitt has not coached basketball since he acknowledged an inappropriate relationship and resigned as the womens coach at Louisiana Tech in 2016. Neither he nor the school said with whom he had the relationship.

He divorced and later married Brooklyn Pumroy, who had been a point guard at Louisiana Tech and had followed him from Marquette to the Lady Techsters program.
