Vehicle found in Hawkins County AMBER Alert; teen, suspect still missing


SURGOINSVILLE (WATE) – The vehicle listed as part of an AMBER Alert out of Surgoinsville in Hawkins County was found on Thursday night, but the 14-year-old girl and the suspect are still missing.

Investigators with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia determined the 2004 maroon Ford Explorer Sport Trac that 41-year-old Benjamin ‘Ben’ Shook was last seen driving was abandoned since Tuesday in the Troutdale area.

Shook and Hayleigh Cheyenne Wilson received a ride to the Sugar Grove area of Smyth County, Virginia, according to Grayson County deputies.

The vehicle is now being processed for evidence and leads are being pursued in the area by U.S. Marshal Service and local law enforcement.

The AMBER Alert for Wilson was activated on Wednesday. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, she left her Surgoinsville home on Monday night around 10 p.m.Previous story: AMBER alert issued for Hawkins County girl last seen with sex offender

Shook, who is a sex offender out of Georgia, and Wilson were last seen at a Walmart in Marion, North Carolina on Tuesday morning, according to police.

TBI says there is currently an active warrant out for Shook for failure to register as a sex offender in Georgia.

Shook is described as a white male with several tattoos. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt, with “Ford” written on it, dark shorts, a camouflage baseball hat. He is described as a white male, 6’3” and 175 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes.
