KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Waste Connections has added extra trucks to its Knoxville routes in an effort to catch up on garbage and recycling pickups missed due to this week’s winter weather.

The city’s waste contractor is following its regular Thursday schedule, according to Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero. Pickups missed on Tuesday and Wednesday are being serviced through Saturday using extra trucks by the usual crews working extended hours.

Many driveways are still icy, but crews are still making back-door pickups if possible. Some back-door pickups involving long, icy driveways may not be made until next week unless the resident can move their trash and recyclables closer to the curb.

Streets that are icy and dangerous are not being serviced until conditions improve. Waste Connections is trying to get everyone’s trash collected by the end of Saturday, but new snowfall and lingering slick roads and driveways will likely hinder efforts.

Friday’s pickups will run on normal schedule according to the city.

Pickup schedules will return to normal next week.
