The initial turnout for the first day of early voting was fairly strong in Knox County. There were 1,759 votes cast, plus an additional 626 absentee votes.
Knox County election officials only saw 855 early votes on day one of the last comparable election four years ago. The election office said it isn’t an exact comparison, since there are more high-profile open seats up for grabs this year.
Election administrator Cliff Rodgers predicts 50,000-60,000 votes will be cast this election if the numbers continue at this pace.
Early voting runs through the 26th, closing at 6 p.m. each night, with election day on May 1.
