ABC News said just after 9 p.m. EST Tuesday that U.S. House in Tennessee’s 2nd congressional district winner to be Republican Tim Burchett.

Burchett is the former mayor of Knox County.

Earlier Tuesday, WATE 6 On Your Side asked Burchett what would he change if he got to Washington, D.C. Here’s what he said:

Tim Burchett

“I’ve worked very hard to be fiscally, fiscally restrained government,” Burchett told WATE 6 On Your Side. “I’ve worked hard to get government out of our day-to-day lives and do things like pay down debt. and those things are not real sexybut that’s what’s missing in government. We need to start talking about energy independence. If we can bring our troops home from some of these crazy wars we’re in right now. We’re in over 100 countries and I dare say most of the people watching this won’t, couldn’t name half of those because I know I couldn’t. and I think we need to invest that money here in East Tennessee, specifically at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and develop alternative energy sources.”

Election Day polls close at 8 p.m. EST tonight.

WATE 6 On Your Side will bring you the results and more campaign coverage throughout Tuesday.
