Ice Bears drop semifinals opener 3-2 in double overtime

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WATE) – The Knoxville Ice Bears owned a 2-1 lead entering the third period before Huntsville scored three unanswered goals in a 3-2 win in double overtime.

Tyler Piacentini tied the game in the third period before scoring the unassisted game-winner in double overtime.

Trevor Gerling broke open a scoreless game in the second period, chipping in a short goal as he stood all alone in front of the net to give Huntsville the lead.

Scott Cuthrell, who entered the postseason with a team-leading 44 points, tied the game at 1-1 on a breakaway goal before giving Knoxville the lead less than two minutes later.

The series now shifts to Knoxville where the Ice bears will host Huntsville Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum.
