Ice Bears four-game win streak snapped on Star Wars night

Knoxville, TENN. (WATE) – In front of a sold-out crowd clamoring into the Civic Coliseum to see their favorite Star Wars heroes and villains along with their hockey, the Knoxville Ice Bears dropped a heartbreaker in overtime Saturday night to Roanoke 3-2.

Eric Witzel scored the game-winning goal in the overtime period and Rail Yard Dawgs snapped a four-game win streak, but the Ice Bears still picked up a point for it’s fifth straight game.

Stefan Brucato and January’s SPHL Player of the Month Berkley Scott scored for the Ice Bears, who lost for the first time since January 19th.

Over their last thirteen games, Knoxville has picked up 20 of an available 26 points to move into a tie for fourth in the SPHL.

The Ice Bears play three games next week, traveling to Huntsville Thursday night before hosting the Havoc on Friday and traveling to Roanoke on Saturday.
